Growing tips:
These plants are beautifully grown, mature tube stock with well-developed roots. They are guaranteed sun-hardened, can be planted directly into the ground and are excellent performers for your garden.
Ā
Clay soils:Ā Dig in compost or manure and add gypsum to make the soil more friable. Raising the soil level slightly will also assist drainage. Often the soil level only needs to be raised by about 30 cm.
Ā
Sandy soils: Dig in organic matter and keep well mulched.
Ā
Mulch: One of the secrets of successful native gardening is the lavish use of organic mulch. Don't go too deep. Keep mulch away from the stem of your tube stock.
Ā
Pruning: Tip-pruning (pinching off the growing tips). This helps to keep them compact and dense.
Ā
Watering: Native plants use less water than introduced plants, but most still require some moisture to grow well. As a rule of thumb, water your plants every day for the first couple of days, then twice a week for a few weeks, then once a week etc. until they are established. Light sandy soils near the beach or basalt soils will require more water than clay-based soil.
Ā
Note: Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently.
